We (group of five) came to this restaurant for breakfast before hiking. The place was so busy. We waited for 20 minutes and only one waitress were serving all the tables. She might be new: didn't bring the drink my friend ordered, drop portion of the food because she didn't hold the plate well, and that's not the worst part. When she gave us the check, we noticed the 20% gratitude has already been placed. Can you believe for a quick breakfast a party of five would pay 20% tip and received no good service at all. Don't come to this place. It was the worst service I have experienced.

The first time I came here for my mother's birthday dinner and the food and service was great. I just came back a year later with friends because we remembered it was a fun place. This time, the bartender saw us come in and was friendly; told us to take a seat wherever. The waitress saw us but no acknowledgement. She then helped a party that came in after us. We were about to leave when she finally came over and asked if we needed menus. To add to the unpleasant service, the food was NOT how we remembered. Boring burgers and pasta. Never coming back to this place.

So good!!! Great small place! I had the BLTA, it was AMAZING!!! My husband had the blackened chicken sandwich. He said his was great! We will defiantly go back again!

Let's review: Stood at the door for 15 mins before another patron walked in and stopped an employee to tell them we were all waiting. In that time we were walked past no less than 6 times and ignored by waitresses, the bus boy and the bartender. Had to seat ourselves. Had to wipe my own table. Probably would've bussed it too but the bartender decided to come out and help his struggling staff. Drinks took 20 minutes. At which point a group that had sat well before we did was placing their order. Went to wash my hands and stepped into a flooded men's bathroom. There was a 1/4" of water across the whole floor with a floater in the toilet. Told the staff, they said ok. Had to grab napkins from the bar to dry my hands. About 10 mins later my sister went to the women's restroom. On her way a staff member told her to "be careful, there was an accident in the men's restroom." Upon entering the women's she noticed the flood in he men's was beginning to flood the women's. Emergency? Nah!! Go ahead and leave it. Food, which consisted of 4 apps and one sandwich, took almost 30 minutes. And was marginal at best. Recommendation: plenty of other spots in Tahoe City that provide better food, better service and better facilities.

Pretty good find. We were in Tahoe last weekend when my mom was visiting. We wanted a drink and stopped in here. Mom and I had a Bloody Mary and Matt and Rich had a PBR and a shot. The bloody was EXCELLENT! It had great spicy picked green beans in it. We raved about them the entire time. We then moved out to their corner patio and had some lunch. I had their burger and fries. Burger was good but could have used a little more onion jam on it and fries were crispy and tasty. Matt had a Reuben which he liked. Mom and Rich split a burger and a salad and said both were good.

Our server did the best she could, so I thank her lots. But, it was really bad: two people only in the kitchen. We were out in the patio, and the people before us were forgotten and it took awhile. Aside from that, the food wasn't great. I got a Mushroom Swiss burger with sweet potato fries. The Swiss wanted to be melted (the color wasn't like Swiss that wasn't melted, but it wasn't melted either, it glistened.. The menu even states melted Swiss, it was just a disappointment. The burger was well-done like I asked, but it didn't come out hot.. The veggies in it weren't that great. The fries were a mix of some mushy and some crispy pieces individually. The curry powder on top of the fries made it more unique, but my friend thinks it could be stronger which I agree with although that amount is probably good for anyone who might not be fond of curry or whose never had it, it's on the very very subtle end though. The sauce for the fries was amazing, probably the best part, but it gets sickening after awhile. Only two people liked their food (one of which has a different taste palette then I do aka bad taste for me), and two others didn't really like it. The ones that liked their food got: eggs Benedict, and ahi tuna salad. One thought it was okay, but thought the sauce was a little bland got an enchilada. Ones who weren't too fond got: a cranberry turkey and a hickory burger. I wasn't annoyed, but my friend got really annoyed because they took forever to give her back her credit card. What no one was fond of: the menu did not state nor were we told that there would be a gratuity, and on the bill it didn't say the percent for gratuity that was owed, just an amount. A friend did the math and it was 30% gratuity: NOT OKAY. That's overboard and this was the first place in California that didn't even put that information out there: that's sketch.

Happy Hour no hot wings, no pot stickers... $5 for 2 coke and we left...

We stopped here after a day at the Tree Top Adventure Park. I wasn't impressed with this place. Service was slow, food again was mediocre and way overpriced ($10 for 5 potstickers). The blackened seasoning on the chicken sandwich was extremely salty and our fries that came out with our food were not fresh & half of my chicken sandwich had 1 bite of chicken in it.

The Fat Burger is great. We just wanted a quick bite before hitting the road. Been here before. Great service.....more importantly great food.

Super disappointing. After a killer hike one day and craving some really good grub, I drove from where I was staying in Kings Beach over to Fat Cat. Bad move. Though plenty of tables were open, I was told that because I was solo, I couldn't have a table. Uh, ok. But the bartended acted so put-out that I only wanted to order food. As soon as I ordered one beer and placed my food order, he gave me my tab to pay. Whoa. Guess I won't be staying for another brew. I felt like I had to inhale my cheeseburger and sweet potato fries and get the hell out of there; so it could be left to the binge-drinking, shots-guzzling bar patrons - clearly the business they chose to cater to. Bummer, but whatever. At least the burger and fries were worth the hassle and being made to feel like a pest. Sorry I wanted food at a bar. The horror ...

Each year I visit Tahoe, I make sure to stop by at Fat Cat for their Fat Cat Mac 'n Cheese. Chill vibes with a view of the Lake. Good spot for drinks & decent food.

This place was a last min. dinner spot when visiting Tahoe on our first day after a long drive up from the Bay Area. Great burger spot and the service was on point.

We came here for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. The kids ordered the macaroni and cheese which is clearly made from scratch and not from a box. They do offer a variety of macaroni flavors, but my kids got the original. They loved every bite of it! I ordered the grilled veggie sandwich with a side salad and it was amazing! The sandwich consisted of sliced mild green chilies, zucchini, red onion, tomato, avocado and kicked up horseradish sauce on sourdough bread. It also comes with Swiss cheese, but I opted not to have the cheese since the avocado and the horseradish was enough. I totally recommend you try this! Thanks Fat Cat for a yummy meal!

  • Taylor F.

The mac n cheese is terrible. Totally bland. The chicken wings aren't that great. They have a weird flavor and aren't hot at all. The prices are also too high. I wouldn't go here again.

You Gotta!! Try it, seriously, the wait is worth it! We went here for a Valentine's Day lunch and had a crazy 45 minute wait! So after visiting the Thrift Store next door we came back to find bar seats open. The food looked amazing throughout the place and they have about 10 beers on tap with more in bottles, all in all a decent beer selection. We ordered a mushroom swiss burger and a blackened chicken, both with everything. One with sweet potato fries and one with a side salad. My oh my, I was the one to order chicken, and although it was sooooo good the mushroom swiss was just better, perhaps it was because it wasn't mine... I digress. The sweet potato fries are pretty darn scrumptious and the service was impeccable, they were very polite and well mannered, even for how busy they were. My only complaint would be the lack of a hostess... I mean she was never there... we were the third group to show up and wait to put our names down, and we were waiting to put our names in for 10 minutes! Crazy. Plus I heard this rumor that the manager fires staff more often then square dancers change partners... the hostess must be a newb. All in all, would definitely come back for the best burger (I've had thus far) in town! Plus anything off the menu is seemingly delicious!

I hate writing bad reviews but I feel this experience was lame so I will. We came here for a quick brunch and it turned into a snack odyssey. The service here was unfortunate - I understand that they may be understaffed but it was extraordinarily slow. The food was very mediocre at best and 2 items were wrong after an extended wait for food. When we asked about getting the check - since everything was taking a while (including silverware) we were told that it is expected that things will take longer on the patio. That wasn't appreciated because they probably should have informed us about that before. Anyway wouldn't recommend it for food but maybe the bar is good and some bar snacks.

We just recently had my little brother and his fiancé's rehearsal dinner here the day before their wedding and it was AWESOME!!! I cannot stress enough how amazing everything about this experience was! From the food, atmosphere and drinks to the people and how they helped us plan for this special day! A huge shout out to Meg and Matt who put up with us and our shenanigans day of with a smile and truly went above and beyond to make everything perfect. Since it was a big party we got to try a lot from the menu, everything was delicious! Personal favorites were the sweet potato fries, fat cat mac and cheese and the philly cheese steak sandwiches... Mmmmm! We live about an hour and a half away from Fat Cats, but after this experience my husband and I have decided that this place is our new bar... the welcoming vibe and laid back "come as you are" feel combined with stellar drinks and off the charts quality food makes this place something worth driving for! We can't wait to come back again and again! Fat Cat Bar and Grill: you guys have it going on! Thank you thank you thank you! You guys rock!!!!

Great food, took the kids there for dinner. Kids had the butter pasta w/ fries and I started with the potstickers (amazing) and had a BLTA sandwich as well. All the good was fantastic (I'm still thinking of the potstickers)! Only one waitress attending to all the tables... So the Service was good, although could have benefitted from more refills on our drinks. Would defiantly recommend, although as it got later in the evening it would not be a place I would take my kids to, to many drinking & smoking people hanging out.

This place is AMAZING. Simply put, one of my favorite breakfast stops in Tahoe. The ambience is chic and has a sort of artistic loft feel with local artists displayed on all the walls. It is a bar, so bear that in mind. It's small. There are TVs showing sports and a full selection of wine and hard liquor behind the counter. On weekends, hit them up early and grab a Killer Breakfast Burrito. No joke - I have been around the burrito block a time or two and this one is hands down the best I've ever had.

  • Chelsea P.

This is really just a bar with a couple of tables, but food is really good. Really drunk people, even at 7:30pm. Got the buffalo sliders and I'd recommend those to anybody, they were awesome. Also got the turkey cranberry panini, a little dry but still really good. Great for a quick bite.

  • Roy T.

Can't believe how rude the staff are here, waited forever and then the waitress told me she didn't have time to help with a take-out order. Seemed like there were several drunk people in here, definitely not a kid friendly place.

Don't let the biker bar look scare you..we got there around 9pm. Great salads & Southwest egg rolls. Good beer selection & great service.

This is not a bar and grill. It is a bar (a loud bar full of obnoxious, drunk assholes) that happens to serve small portions of bland, overpriced food.

Really clean, fun atmosphere! Rashel was our server and she is fabulous! Great personality! We had four in our party and ordered the blta with turkey and side salad, grilled veggie sandwich with fries, hickory burger with fries and a roast beef melt with sweet potatoe fries! The food was so great! We also all loved the crack sauce aka aoli sauce .. All of their sauces are homemade and yummy! Thanks Rashel!

Based on the reviews, I was interested in trying this place. Unfortunately, they're food was only average and service was super slow. The Reuben barely had any meat on it and had so much horseradish that it can definitely clear your sinuses. The blackened chicken was overly salty and oily. Service was slow and not attentive at all. Got 2 out of 4 of our orders incorrect. Kind of disappointed.

We are a large group that came down for July 4th Celebration from Rio Vista/Stockton areas and decided to eat at the FC. It was extremely busy today but our large party was seated quickly. Our server was Zack he was a little bit overwhelmed but got EVERYTHING RIGHT! My hat goes off to him....thanks dude!the food was decent

Enjoyed our lunch outdoors. Friendly staff and caring service even if it was a bit slow because they were so busy. Hamburger choices are all good. Side choices are also winners and generous in their portions. Many other good lunch choices our group all tried. For a place in a tourist Mecca it has a great local feel ... Not fancy but pleasant.

Came in to just one person as the hostess and waitress, but since the place isn't too big, we were seated right away. Ordered the BBQ burger with turkey and side salad ($13). Turkey party was cooked great and nice and juicy. The brioche bun was GREAT. Nice and fluffy. The flavors worked well together and the bun didn't fall apart. My friends also ordered the fat mac and cheese which was pretty creamy. I didn't think I was the best, but it was good. Nice place to grab a bite or a drink. They serve their breakfast menu til 2pm which is nice.

After a fun time at the park, my group was famished and we stumbled upon Fat Cat. It was a Monday at lunch time and there was only one other group inside. So, right off the bat, if you are tired of waiting for a table at Bridgetender, mosey on over to this place! The Good: -The food is delicious! My mom and I split a Blackened Chicken Sandwich, their amazing sweet potato fries and a side salad. My boys enjoyed their kid's burger and chicken strips. -The service was friendly and laid back. -The prices were fair. -The interior was cool and cozy. The Bad: -The food took a while to come out. -The bartender and the server were eating behind the bar. When you are hungry and waiting a little too long for your food, this is annoying. See you next year, Fat Cat!

This place is a joke, first there salads where way overpriced for the quantity and second I called too place a Togo order 30 mins before they are to close and was turned away. With very few other options in Tahoe at 8 at night I'm stuck eating a frozen pizza. Last time I will plan to eat here

Not to sound snobby (although fine, maybe just a little snobby), but it can be hard to get a legitimately amazing cocktail in Tahoe City. Or so I thought... until I discovered Fat Cat. I was in on Friday and the guy behind the bar - Quinn - reassured me he could definitely make an excellent Manhattan. He was super friendly and seemed eager to make me whatever I wanted, so I decided to trust him. Which was totally the right call. Now I know exactly where to go now when I'm craving something other than a beer. (Although they have a good selection of those on tap as well.) It's a cozier spot and the vibe is laid back with a mix of locals and tourists, slight advantage locals, which as someone who comes up on the weekends from SF, I take as a good sign. If the people who live here year-round are packing the place, it means the bar's doing something right - and it is. Fun crowd and great service. Definitely check out their happy hour - 1/2 price appetizers from 4-6pm if you sit at the bar (which you should since the bartenders are super friendly and provide speedy service). My favorite are the Thai lettuce wraps and the wings, but everything I've had there has been yummy. It's also worth pointing out that nothing on the menu is over $14 - something that's almost impossible to say about any other restaurant in Tahoe. Haven't made it there for breakfast yet, but I've heard from everyone that it's really good, so that's definitely on my to-do list. If I haven't convinced you to go to Fat Cat for to the awesome service, killer cocktails, and great food, then I'll also just throw out there that they have karaoke on Thursdays. I'll be back for all of that. But mostly that Manhattan. Wish I were sipping on one right now.

Food was ok; service was friendly but a little slow. I think our waiter was the only server on staff. The portions were a little small. I had the Fat Cat Mac. It was good but not enough. Potstickers as an appetizer were ok. There's a little bit of a view of the lake from a window seat, but mostly we were looking at a taxi driver sitting in his van just chilling in the parking lot. Would not go back.

Gotta love the vibe at fat cats. Great food and the best bloody on the lake! Thanks rashel!

  • Irene C.

Disappointed. I order the Fat Cat Mac n cheese and I got their regular Mac n cheese but was charged for the more expensive one. The Mac n cheese was okay. It was a pick up order so didn't feel like going all the way back to complain. My sisters burger was good but for the price it wasn't anything special. Better off going to in n out and paying 5 instead of paying 13$ and 12$ for Mac n cheese. Will not return.

Waited an hour on Sunday for brunch which ended up being just lunch. We had 11 people in our group. It was definitely worth the hour wait but majority of us were disappointed that they ran out of eggs and we couldn't order from brunch menu. My boyfriend and I shared a mushroom mac and cheese and Philly cheese steak sandwich. Mac and cheese - nice and creamy with he perfect amount of cheese oozing out of each bite. 5 stars Philly cheese steak - the meat were nice and tender and flavors were amazing. 5 stars Everyone in our group were super happy with their food

After a long day of settling for a so so drink and bite to eat we wandered into Fat Cat Bar and Grill! The little bar/grill welcomed us with it's artsy jive ~ think Tender's in SF! The friendly guy behind the bar, Quinn, greeted us and with quick profession had our hands filled with the best drinks I had the entire weekend on the lake! This guy knows his stuff. Ordered the Mac&Cheese and Ahi Tower....so good we came back for brunch the following day. Nothing is better than a bartender that knows how to mix a bloody Mary and again Quinn proved is skill!!! This place will be the hot spot on our next stop. It's clean, friendly, kinda hip and oh so good!

The food here is delicious. The Fat-Cat-Mac was epic. Mac&Cheese, mushroom and bacon? You've gotta try it! I also had the Ruben with a horse radish sauce and sweet potato fries....*drools* Service was normal. Wasn't bad. Definitely would come back!

Exceptional place for a good meal. Plus they have PBR! The burger and fries are a favorite of mine. The meat has great flavor and the fries are shoestring - tasty and hot. Seriously the best burger on the North Shore!! Try it!

Great food but the service Rashel is awesome. 6/20/15 HD brunch 11:58 order 403535. Best service ever. I have never been there before just stopped by and now is going to be my go to place when in town. Hope to see Rashel again. Thanks again.

They have food? All I know is I went there with friends for an out-of-town Saturday night and we had THE best time. Good drinks, Good Social Atmosphere, Great Convo....all you want in a nice bar when you're out of town. Bonus points for Abby for putting up with a bunch of drunk out-of-towners....Double Bonus because abby heard my voice going hoarse and practically forced me to drink some soothing tea...sans alcohol. I went back the next night, after everyone else had left town (I was staying over one more night), and ordered a Ketel and a Guinness...they were out of Ketel, and it was likely our fault.

Came here for breakfast at 11:00. We ordered the pancakes and the fat cat Benedict. The pancakes were light and a bit dense. It had 3 large pancakes which were descent size. My friend asked for the half order of the Benedict which was plenty of food and slightly cheeper. The side of potatoes were rich and I was not fond of the corn flakes on top. Our server was great, and we like the locals here in Tahoe. Definitely a regular stop in Tahoe.

Bad start to a beautiful day...okay, we did have a party of 10, but they set up 3 bar-height tables right away. The waitress took our drink order. Ordered a Sierra Nevada and got a bottle (warm) and wanted a draft. Waitress said she didn't know they had it on draft...hmmmm. No apology... Ordered our food....and waited and waited...waitress came back often and told us the food was coming up. She Actually brought 2 out of the 10 orders out. Then finally, 30 minutes after the 2 orders were served, the other 8 came out. Again, no apologies... The food was good, basic bar faire. The bill came out very quickly after the food...and it was wrong. Ugh. And again, no apologies. The bartender asked to speak to me outside as I was talking with the waitress (in my calmest manner) and told me that they were a small business and the kitchen was slammed, they ran out of food; all things that, as a customer, I didn't want to hear. What I was hoping for was some compensation, whether it be service or recognition of the issue, but got nothing. And he said he didn't have the authority to make any monitory considerations as there wasn't a manager on site. Forgot to mention that the bathrooms were both out of order. Has to use the restaurant next door. All in all, would never eat here again, nor recommend it to anyone. Too bad , because we were visiting a group of 30 staying in the area that were looking for recommendations.

I did not eat here. However, my husband and I were looking for any place open after 9:00 and started calling everywhere. We called this location and the gentleman who answered the phone was so kind. He told us that, sadly, they were no longer serving food, but then told us where we could find an open restaurant. He even took the time to ask another regular customer if he knew of any other restaurants open at that hour. I appreciated that he took the time to help us, even though he had no need to do that. I was sad I wasn't able to actually give my business to a place that employs high-quality people. Thank you for going above and beyond, whoever you are! :)

Came here after getting to the area early in the day. Place was filled with locals and we were there just at the end of happy hour. The lettuce wraps were some of the best we've ever had and the pot stickers were right up there. My son loved the kids Mac and cheese. Will come back next time through town!

Had lunch here with my family during our stay in tahoe city. The food was very good and portions were big, though service was a little slow. The place is not very big and the bar takes up most of the square footage. Kids are welcome but possibly not the the best atmosphere for the them as the crowd is very young and there were people smoking right outside the door and the smell drifted inside. Still, we enjoyed the food but probably would only return without our children

We chose the Fat Cat for a late lunch because - there was a parking space. Ambiance: bar. Dark walls and furniture, sports on tv, youngish crowd. Not our usual. Walls of odd, bright art cheered things up. We were greeted casually by the server. The menu was to drool. The brunch menu was tempting, even more so when the server brought the next table plates of omelet with wedges of melon and pineapple cut up in bites. Lunch was a hard choice so we both ordered the Fat Cat burger, with bacon, a big slice of tomato, and iceberg lettuce - the best if you like a crunch. The meat was tasty. Cooked medium rare, the juice ran up to my wrists. Side salads fresh and nicely dressed. We enjoyed the youthful energy and local feel. Music is offered a few nights a week -local artists, open mic, and karaoke. But food certainly doesn't take a back seat to music.

Stopped in here last night. Walked in and pleasantly stood by the wait to be seated sign. A waiter with short black hair and a goatee with sunglasses on his head walked by me 3 times without acknowledging me. Way to make me feel unwelcome. Huge no-no in theindustry. He not busy at all. I finally just asked him if I could seat myself, and strolled up to the bar, waiting on my company. Had originally wanted a table but after the lack of greeting, I couldn't allow this guy to earn my gratuity. The bartender was courteous and professional, while he did get a bit busy during our meal he was attentive and on point. Ordered the signature fat cat burger with fries. I wasn't dissppointed, but who screws up a burger anyways? It was cleanly assembled but quite average otherwise. The menu looked stacked with appealing items, and I come through town often, perhaps one day I'll try this place again, but there are plenty of other venues for me to sample where I'll feel more welcome.

Delicious! Amazing service! I absolutely loved that they have sweet potato fries! Our waitress was so nice and made us feel very welcome. We had planned on just getting appetizers but we were enjoying ourselves so much we had a drink and then stayed for dinner. We could see the lake and everything! If you only have time for one meal in Tahoe City, I would definitely recommend this place!

Went to Fat Cat for breakfast. I took a bite of everyone's food at the table. ALL of it was fantastic. The killer breakfast burrito was great with homemade enchilada sauce. Coffee was really good too. The music was too load for the morning time but they turned it down upon request with no problems. Prices are decent for the quality. Service was great. Don't be thrown by the 'bar and grill' in the name. Super breakfast.

We had an excellent dining experience at fat city the other night. Our hamburgers hit the spot after a long and tiring day of skiing. We were pleasantly surprised to have the service exceed our expectation. Our server, Rashel was knowledgeable about the menu and made some great recommendations. She was also helpful about Tahoe. My family and I will come back when in the area.

In the past 24hrs I'v been here 3 times already... First we went here for a quick dinner, good burgers and great harvest salad!!! I got the Black and Blue burger with the blue cheese was a bit too salty for my taste. But as soon as I took off the cheese it was all good and dandy. Great service the waitress that took care of us (for all 3 times) is very nice and attentive. After a little walk along the lake, we came back here for a few cat martinis which were really good too! I got the 'Cat with Class' which was not too sweet and not too sour it was just right. Also the 'The Cat Tail' which was missing a it of lemon juice but overall it was yummy for people who like sweet drinks. The next day I decided to come back for breakfast; got the 'Cat Benedict' with turkey sausage and the harvest salad, honestly I came back because of the salad. Really craved a good honest salad once more. The Beni was ok, one of the poached eggs was a little over cooked inside with a bit of a runny white.. The Hollandaise sauce was on the mild side but I didn't actually mind it... The ciabatta bread was crisp and I like the arugula touch as well. The only thing that is a bit off putting is the strong smell of beer when you enter. I get it, you guys are a bar, but when you go there for breakfast.. That is a no, no... I can imagine how it feels like if you come here hang over... I think it's probably the few apostates chairs that they have there. But after a few minutes you do get use to the smell and then it's all good! But don't let this little comment keep you out great place all around, just a suggestion for the owners

What can I say, best burgers around. We're from L.A. And this beats anything I've had down there. Also Jason is the hardest working host, waiter & busboy around. He's amazing. Great place!!!!!!

Fat Cat's was awesome, service by Rochelle was top notch. She cares to make your visit memorable. They were busy, but she took our order and made sure we were happy. Food was excellent ! Great portions and very tasty, kid friendly too. Must try this place!

My girlfriend and I are regulars here. It's great food and reasonable prices. Quinn is always enjoyable and the perfect bartender as a local. He remembers our drink orders and if he wasn't present during our meal, we would notice. When we see Quinn and are greeted by our names and the question: "having the usual?", It is an experience above and beyond what we've encountered from other local stops. FatCat is appreciated and we enjoy seeing all of the familiar faces!!

Yessssssss! This place has fantastic Bloody Mary's and really tasty food. If you're in Tahoe and want a place with a solid beer menu, and a good variety of good food, stop on in! I definitely recommend this spot. I'd give it 5 stars, but I'm not into tv's at bars, so it's 4 stars.

Stopped here after a long drive from SF. Great casual atmosphere with just a few tables and a big screen tv. It's across the street from the lake but still has a great view.

Out of Towner - First time customer. Food and service was great! We retuned again a few days later with additional family members to enjoy another pleasant dining experience. Great local establishment, welcoming friendly staff. Freshly made food at a reasonable price. - Fresh and Delicious Salads - Yummy Mac and Cheese - Awesome Drink Special = $7 for a Shot and PBR Chef error with food handled courteously and professionally. Highly recommended!! A+ ALL AROUND - We will be sure to return on our next visit to North Lake Tahoe area.

I was in Tahoe for Christmas and New Years and every place was packed so my wife and I tried The Fat Hut which had a supposed four star rating on Yelp. The place is not a restaurant that serves food, in my opinion it is a bar that serves food. The beers they have on tap is pretty impressive but the food is just not of very high quality. My wife got a hamburger that was rare when we ordered it medium. My food tasted not very fresh and the place was largely disappointing. The service was also poor as we witnessed people walk out after no one came to their table after they were seated for 10 minutes.

Four stars but only because the food is good. Had the mac and cheese and my friend had the chicken club. The portions are small for the price

Great burgers and awesome service from Rashel Worth the trip around the lake. Enjoyed the casual atmosphere and very attentive service. We'll be back.

Everything is positive about the Fat Cat, from the view to the great burgers. We dropped by on a mid week ski break, and lucked out. The hostess/ bartenderette Rashel is a hoot, she is funny and makes big drinks. We ordered burgers, and they were so good, no condiments needed. The water is delicious. Bar has wonderful feel. As I mentioned, it is on the lake and the mountains are spectacular.

  • Hydrolagus C.

Not impressed. I had the Ahi salad. The dressing was good but the ahi was obviously pre-cooked and therefore dried out. The cocktails are also really poor. A shame. The reviews were so good. Also, people linger right outside the building and smoke so it smells like smoke inside the bar.

This is my new favorite place for breakfast in Tahoe. I've been here many times for drinks and lighter meals, but not for breakfast until today. I started with a tall delicious house bloody made with Hangar One vodka, my friend had a Bailey's and coffee (no offer of whipped cream, maybe you have to ask for it?). For our entrees we shared the breakfast burrito and the french toast. Both were some of the best that I've had. The breakfast burrito was large, wrapped in a spinach tortilla, with eggs, potatoes, cheese, sausage AND bacon, all topped with sour cream and salsa. The french toast is brioche bread served with a super sweet, grilled banana -- yum! One star off because it always seems cold in here (and I usually run warm), so wear an extra layer.

Hubby and I ordered the Philly cheesesteak and the blackened chicken sandwich, both with sweet potato fries. The food was very good; would definitely eat here again. Friendly staff; waitress Caitlin was attentive and offered to give us "to go" drinks when we were leaving. We sat near a window and had a lovely view of the lake. Chill atmosphere, just like you'd expect in Tahoe. Check it out on your next visit to the north shore.

They get this many stars only because the food was delicious otherwise they would get 1. It took our waitress about 30 minutes before she even came to introduce herself and take our orders. My wife ordered a sandwich and my kid and I order two burgers nothing special and it was about 40 minutes before she brought our food. She didn't even come to our table until we asked the busboy (who was awesome!) where she was or where our food was. Even after we got the food we didn't see her until she ran by and dropped off the check. Mind you this place only has room for less than a dozen tables and they had two waitress working so it felt like she was ignoring us.

The food here ranks high among all the brunches I've ever had. I ordered the huevos rancheros and loved the crispy tortillas and fresh avocados. My only complaint about this place is the service is quite slow. It is hard to complain too much, because the outdoor seating overlooks Lake Tahoe. And although slow, the wait staff is very friendly and the food and coffee were worth the wait.

Great local atmosphere and eclectic menu with something for everyone's taste. The fat cat mac-n-cheese is heavenly, and there are some very creative burger options. Our bartender willingly obliged my taste for a cucumber martini, even though it was not on the drink menu.

All in all an excellent experience. I really enjoyed the scramble I ordered and thought the casserole was great as well. All in all the food was almost perfect though I could tell the casserole was precooked and microwave heated (it had to be, the crispy component was soggy). It was good enough to ignore. The atmosphere is somewhat inviting depending on your mood but inevitably I had to remind myself more than a few times that this is a bar, not a restaurant. A few people at the bar were getting loud and it quickly became difficult to focus on anything but them, something I don't normally appreciate. If you're not in a mood to deal with loud people then this might not be your place but then again that just depends on the time and people inside. I would definitely recommend this place for a good brunch. I actually thought the scramble was better than Fire Sign and that's saying a lot, to me. :)

I feel like I am doing a slight injustice by only giving this place 4 stars considering what an AMAZING Fat Cat Mac n' Cheese they have! I was pretty happy to find that they were extremely accommodating to our group of 8 even though the place actually has very few tables and is more of a bar / lounge. Of course, I was drawn here because of good Yelp ratings, but after a 3 hour bike ride, our group was pretty much ready to scarf down anything. We were quickly seated somewhere mid-afternoon ish time, and we were fed water probably a good 4/5 refills until we finally made up our minds about what to order. We ordered and the food took a little while, but once it came out everyone was too busy scarfing to even speak. I actually didn't get the Mac n' Cheese to begin with because I was attempting to be healthy. However, a friend got it next to me and I tried some ... and was sold! I love the combination of the flavors, the smokey bacon, the crispiness of it, and the gooey, cheesy noodles along with mushrooms adding that extra kick. GOODNESS I'm drooling. Highly recommended, great staff, and yummy food!

This by far was the best place to eat! We almost didn't even go here to eat but sure glad we did. The waiter Sean recommended the black and blue and it was delish! We were traveling with our kids and they are picky eaters...they ate it all! I can't wait to go back again.

Solid place. I went there for a drink on a Friday night and then happy hour on Saturday. Both times it was pretty mellow. The people at the bar (customers and bartenders) were all very friendly, so it was a fun place to come in and chat with the locals. I heard the food was good here, but I only had the happy hour lettuce cup, which was good value, but nothing to write home about. BUT Quinn does make some great cocktails. They were good value and delicious. The man's got some skills. So Quinn - thanks for my Roasted Jalapeno special. I'll probably be back for it someday!

My wife, daughter and I stopped here for little pre-game / lunch before a wedding last weekend. This was our first trip to Tahoe and if Fat Cat is any indication of how the locals are and how the food and drinks are in the area, we'll absolutely be back. We loved this joint! I got a turkey cranberry sandwich with sweet potato fries and a beer, wife got some sort of bbq burger, fries and a Bloody Mary. Everything was excellent! Service was on point, atmosphere is chill, good eats, good drinks, good music selection and they didn't kick us out with a 2 year old ;-) . Thanks guys!

Went here w the granny and uncle in mid March, during the drought/cheap tourist time of year. This place was def. up w the jones. Grass-fed meat, small town microbrew beers and a versatile menu for all eaters. The Chinese Chicken Salad granny said- "Sublime plating and perfect balance of oil to sweetness following humid chicken." My favorite part of the trip to this restaurant was the amazing urban art and the shredder Tahoe chick w the beanie on. Worth the thirty five mile drive from South Shore folks!

Looked for somewhere to eat in Tahoe City and this place had amazing reviews and pics. It was delicious. My husband had the bacon BBQ burger and I had the turkey cranberry sandwich. The only thing I was disappointed with was when I asked for a cherry coke and saw the waitress pouring the juice/syrup from the bar cherries in my coke. Yuck!

Horribly slow service! Not even very many people to serve. Even if they had one cook it was ridiculous! We waited at least 20-30min to get our drinks which mostly consisted of water. Cold water. How long does it take to fill a couple cups? Good gosh. Good thing we ordered food when we ordered drinks. Otherwise we probably would have been there for almost three hrs. The only time I want to be at a restaurant that long is if it's a ten course meal! We ordered one. Our server told us two times that our food would be out soon. Lie. Probably a good 30-40min more... This is after the 10min+ it took to order and time to get our drinks. I could cook all our dishes in that time. Almost half of or orders were SALAD. Wtf? If you're planning on coming here, come when you're not hungry so by the time you get your food you're hungry. Fastest thing to arrive was the check. Forgot the to-go box, of course. Had to ask again. If you wonder why you got a crappy tip, time your waiters. Almost no one eating inside and the patrons outside were mostly finishing up or only ordering drinks, so no excuse for taking so long, especially with three waiters/waitresses working outside. I give it two stars instead of one because of the quality of the food (chicken marsala pasta, caprese salad, french dip, chicken pesto sandwich, Thai salad, and burrito wrap were all good) and they have outdoor seating with a partial view of the lake. Waiter was nice... Just obscenely slow. Need: Faster service (for everything but the check), heat lamps for the outdoor seating, cushions on the seats... only a few seats have cushions (If you're going to have them, be consistent), and a separate menu for Summer and Winter (I ordered hot chocolate, and they said they don't have it, only in the Winter... if you don't have it regularly, don't put it on your menu... DUH).

Solid, tasty, food. We ordered a ton of stuff and it was pretty much too small to fit on our tiny table, but they did a good job of pacing it (though the 4-top is a pretty small 4-top). A surprisingly good dish was the "Thai" lettuce wraps. The mac and cheese was also good, as were the soups and salads. I kind of wish I had ordered a burger too--others had it and it looked so tasty!

We walked into an empty place at 2:30 pm and it was very dark inside. We sat down next to the window with a nice view of the lake. The server was very friendly as we ordered the turkey sandwich and pesto chicken sandwich (with goat cheese! YUM) with sweet potato fries and a bowl of tomato basil soup. The food was pretty good and the fries were amazing. If you are looking for a place to just pop into for some decent food and a nice view of the lake, this is a good cafe to be at.

They used to have the best margaritas I have ever had, in big glasses. I recommended it to many friends nearby. Now I wish I had not because they must have changed all their mixes and alcohol because the margaritas now are nasty. I can't even begin to finish it. And the music is totally punk, even though they decorate and put themselves out as a hip, cool, coffee-shop, artsy type place. Not. Not my crowd. Doesn't have to be with decent drinks. But ... no thank you!!

  • Elizabeth P.

I love the vibe in this place. Played great music, and is one of the few places that actually stayed open past 9pm. We both got burgers which were excellent. Good amount of ice-cold beers on tap. Would definitely go back. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 star was that they only had one server for the whole restaurant so it took a little while for the food to come out. Our server, however, was excellent.

I'm going to let bygones be bygones with this business. Honesty: the food can be really hit-or-miss. I would suggest dining in versus carrying out for maximum taste. (When I did the carry-out, it was generally soggy and there is a lot of confusion regarding sides, etc.) When they're good, the sweet potato fries are AMAZING. The Fungi sandwich is also really good, but again: soggy unless you eat it there. They have decent drink specials during happy hours, too, like $2 PBR. Overall, I don't see myself continuing to dine with this establishment, as I feel there is better stuff (and service) elsewhere around North Lake.

I decided to go to The Fat Cat because it was close to my condo at Alpine Meadows and it closed later than the other places I looked up. James, our server was the BOMB! My friends and I decided to go to The Fat Cat for dinner (total of 12 ppl). I think James was a bit shocked that 12 ppl was coming into a small dinner/bar place right before closing. He was very attentive and tried to take care of us as well as the room full of customers. He spent time to come to us and tell us there is only two chefs and our food will come out as soon as possible. It is understandable, we were patient but starving! My boyfriend ordered the chicken masala ($12) and I ordered the turkey sandwich with cranberry ($10) and a cup french onion soup ($5). My boyfriend's chicken masala was unique and interesting (in a good way). My turkey sandwich was very juicy and not dry as I thought it might be. The french onion soup on the other hand was not good at all, it was really salty and I felt there was something missing (but don't know what). All of my friends seemed very satisfied with their dishes (lasagna, mac and cheese were a few of the things they ordered). Also, during the time we were there, the rugs was giving off a horrid smell, but you can't help that when it was snowing outside and people are coming in with dirty wet boots making the smell come out more than usual. Overall, GREAT service, GOOD food and GOOD atmosphere. I heard their specialty is Fat Cat Mac, I didn't try it, but my friends said it was better than the mac and cheese they had in the Bay Area (better than Homeroom)!

We got take-out since we were in a rush. I got a turkey cranberry sandwich was pretty good though I wish there was more cranberry in it. There was only cranberry in the middle of the sandwich, leaving the edges less tasty. The sandwich came with a side. I was given several options and ended up choosing the pasta salad, which was okay. I also tried the BLT, which was a little dry, but the green salad was good, but not special. The staff was extremely friendly and the food came out quickly.

This place is good. The food is tasty and the atmosphere is great for a beer after boating. The only problem I have is that the kids food portions are way too small for the price they charge. My daughter always ends up asking for more food and usually she never finishes her meal.

We have been by this place many times and never stopped in. From the street it looks like a takeout picnic place. So when we did,, it was great. Full bar hi-top tables and regular stools too. We had the Pasole soup (excellent) Cajun chicken club (excellent) Sweet potato fries(great) potato salad(real good) A few days later we returned for lunch..I know stupid us,, but Still great.. Fat cat Mac is great. Turkey and cran sando is damn good. Roast beef Sammy was the shit too. Next I want to try the Lettuce wraps and the egg roll things.. Cool place..

While vacationing this past weekend, my husband and I decided to stop for a late lunch in Tahoe City. After seeing all the good reviews for the Fat Cat on yelp, we decided to give it a try. We were immediately greeted by a very friendly waiter, who told us to we could sit wherever we like. He gave us some recommendations of his favorite sandwiches, from which I chose the Chicken Pesto with sweet potato fries & my husband ordered a chicken sandwich with avocado & applewood bacon with a salad. The sandwiches were AWESOME! I was a little weary of ordering a sandwich with goat cheese as I'd heard it could be pretty overpowering, but it blended perfectly with the pesto mayo & roasted red peppers and the ciabatta roll it was served on was so soft & fresh. Other reviewers who said you have to try the sweet potato fries weren't lying - so good! Both sandwiches were good-sized portions & so delicious! This is a great little restaurant on this side of the lake... we will definitely come back!

The Fat Cat burger is one heck of a great burger! Was expecting a good burger from the reviews but this one really surprised me. Great spot, good service, and it's not going to put a bullet through your wallet just to eat here! The sweet potato fries were killer too, but you can already see that from a lot of the other reviews. My focus for this review is the Fat Cat burger since it surprised me so much with how damn good it was.

I tried two items on the happy hour menu (4PM - 6PM): - The sweet potato fries with curry are very good: nice and crispy. The curry flavor was great: ask for extra curry. Better than the sweet potato fries at Burger Me in Truckee. - The sliders 3 ways were OK, not great. I'd rather get the short rib sliders at Bite Restaurant in Incline Village.

Took forever to seat us. Couldn't be more disinterested in our patronage. Would not accept my recently expired ID... despite me coming here for my bday dinner. My bf left to go get it from the hotel after putting our order on hold. Sat there with out food, or an apology watching my boyfriend's beer for 20 mins, feeling like a total ass in my bday outfit and makeup! I looked and felt so out of place! Thought the macaroni truffle thing was supposed to be amazing and was beyond disappointed! Sadly, the rest of our dinner was terrible, too. The manager or owner didn't bother to make anything up to us... truly, crappy bday dinner. Luckily, we went out in SF, where we live, where they know customer service and GOOD food.

Went in blind (not prior yelp look-up) and I really don't care what other yelpers say because I had the best Caprese sandwich here! Such a simple sandwich but done perfectly! Fresh french bread not to hard but had a bite to it, tender thick slices of mozzarella, Roma tomato's, fresh basil and the perfect touch of balsamic vinegar. Perfect! I am still thinking about it! I also got a cup of the Potato Leek soup - it was served in a coffee mug - cute! Nice and creamy. Good for a crisp Fall afternoon! DH ordered a sandwich and I think he got a salad. Sorry can't give you anymore info because once I took a bite of mine - I didn't really care what he had. I didn't ignore him, I know we talked during our meal but I was in food euphoria! :) Food makes me happy and this place hit the spot! Staff was friendly - she checked on us twice... or I think she did - I was eatin'! :)

Great location, near the lake (depending on how the cars are parked you can have a great view). Good service, good vibe, yummy food, we'll be back! My hubby had a black and blue burger that he was really happy with(and it was HUGE). I had the Winter Cran and it was delicious! I will admit though that a place near where I live makes a similar sandwich that edges this out. But still good. It is a little dark, and definitely feels like a bar serving food.

This review is for the service. Dog-accompanied, we waited for the waiter to seat us on the patio. We got a "I'll be right with you". One long, leisurely conversation with his table and a few other customers later, and he disappeared into the back without a word. Frustrated and hungry, we left and went across the street. We wanted to like you, Fat Cat, and you failed to even provide us the opportunity.

Went back for my second trial, I actually came back twice: once for the lunch menu and second for the bar life. Lunch menu: The philly filet mingon sandwich. Delicious. 'Nuff said. The mac n' cheese, not so great, it needed something else. I would get the Fat Cat signature mac n' cheese next time because it has bacon, which is probably what the mac n' cheese was missing. There were many items on the menu that looked tasty, but everything was pretty pricey and I would rather go somewhere cheaper for lunch since you end up spending so much on vacation anyways. Bar: While we waiting for the sandwiches to be made at noon, I saw 5 Mike's Hard Cranberry Lemonade sitting behind the bar. When I came back that night and ordered a Mike's Hard Cranberry Lemonade, there were mysteriously none. Whatever, not really a big deal. The bar was much nicer without the loud music, especially if you are able to snag the comfortable chairs on the side. Overall this place was much better the second time around.

We rolled in here with 2 kids on a random Monday for lunch. Though it is in a strip mall, upon entering you immediately feel like you could be in a big city. Super friendly service, great menu for kids and adults. I had the ahi tuna tower, was fresh and delicious. My daughter's macncheese was crazy good and we argued over the last bite, she won. We all loved the sweet potato fries. One improvement could be made on seating, the comfy chairs are done and leave one sitting to low for the table. We will be back for sure.

They just changed their menu 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, they left off their awesome calamari. The children's pasta (which was my son's all-time fav) is 2-3x smaller in size and not enough cheese, a bit overcooked. We did try a new appetizer, the coconut shrimp - pretty good, a bit dry, but good size pieces. Sadly, the sweet potato fries (which always used to be crispy) were really soggy this time. Hopefully they'll get the new menu back up to the standards of the old one...soon...

Had lunch there yesterday and Jaclyn was terrific with our group, including 4 kids. The food was delicious. Recommend the fat cat burger with sweet potato fries, although the regular ones were good as well, the Club, and the turkey burger. Salads were good too.

On some days, this place is a 5, on others it's a 1. When the service doesn't suck, and the chef isn't checked out, this place is amazing. But unfortunately today was a 1. We come up to Tahoe a lot and always go here for their breakfast and burgers. Unfortunately everything you hear about the service is true. 80% of the time it's slow, the staff makes excuses for their mistakes, and the food comes out half complete, (today they left off the onion marmalade on my burger, skimped on the sweet potato fries, then there was no hollandaise sauce, undercooked eggs, and skimped on the avocado on my gf's Benedict). And everyone's food was cold. I swear all of the staff is under 22 and aren't really managed by anyone. If something goes wrong, don't be surprised to hear a staff member throw a comrade under the bus. Unprofessional. The only reason I didn't split the difference and rate this a 3 is that the level of professionalism exhibited by the bartender was non-existent. It's too bad because yesterday our food and service was phenomenal.

I really hate giving bad reviews, but when I experience some of the worst service I've ever had, you know I've gotta consult to Yelp. Two friends and I decided to eat dinner here after reading the reviews on Yelp. The place was pretty quiet for a Friday night, as we were the only ones eating any food. We ordered an appetizer of pulled pork tacos, 2 salads (as entrées), and a sandwich. Easy enough order, right? Our pork tacos took 45 minutes to come out, and when she finally DROPPED them on the table, they were cold! The meat was super dry and hard to swallow but at this point we were starving. She also seemed very angry about bringing us side plates by her remark of "oh, you're sharing? I guess I'll bring some plates". Uhh...doesn't everyone share appetizers?! About 1 bite into our tacos, our entrées come out. My salad and my friends salad were completely over dressed to the point of burning our mouths, and were piled high with about 200 dried cranberries. My salad had about 3 walnuts, and my friends had an over abundance. Talk about inconsistency. We were still hungry after this terrible meal, and were excited to order the Mud Pie, but before we could, the server literally threw the check onto the table and walked away. So much for dessert...we were flabbergasted by her horrible service, and walked out of there immediately after paying. I can say without a doubt, this was the worst service I can ever remember. I would never recommend anyone to go here.

We were there yesterday for the first time after playing in the snow, I must say, SNAP!!! SNAP!!!!! I felt like I was in Cheers where everyone know your name :) All I wanted was some soup and when I looked at the menu, I kept changing my mind hehee, sooo many choices. No sticker shock. Pretty good service. Very clean, we will be back again.

Great post-snowboarding comfort food! We were starving after our day in the snow and ordered the following: - Calimari: A must-order. This was some of the best fried calamari I've had! The spicy marinara was delicious and we inhaled our order. - Sweet potato fries: Pretty good! I liked the dip. I'm not sure what it was, but it tasted a little like curry. - Mac & cheese: I thought the mac & cheese was just ok. It was a little bland for my taste, and I think it could have been a bit saltier. Great creamy texture, but minus points for flavor. - The fungi sandwich: Carmelized onions tossed with a mix of sauteed mushrooms and brie on foccacia. Delicious! I would order this again. - French onion soup: A disappointment. It was way too salty, and though I was craving soup, we didn't finish our cup. - Mud pie: Delicious! Yes, it was cold outside, but the mud pie was worth it. Delicious oreo crust and creamy coffee ice cream. We finished every bite! My other friends got the roast beef sandwich and the cream of mushroom soup and loved both! For drinks, one of my friends ordered the drink with hot coffee alcohol drink with Bailey's (delicious!) and I ordered the hot apple pie (not so much - VERY alcoholic... I wouldn't get it again). Great atmosphere with a fireplace and a full bar, but we didn't much care for our surly waitress or the weird stinginess with giving us extra plates (weird... there was definitely no shortage).

Bar with food. I don't do bars but the burger I had here was so perfect I'd be a regular if I lived closer. The Sweet Potato fries tasted like they had a curry on them before frying which gave them a great flavor.

Incredibly slow food. Waited an hour after the order. Waitress kept avoiding us... Wouldn't recommend it for lunch.

We make Fat Cat a consistent stop each week when in Tahoe City. As continuing patrons, the staff immediately recognizes us and greets us with a smile, a cocktail nap and our favorite beverages. Flat screens surround the bar and dining area if you want to view your favorite game or fuelTV. Prices are most fair. Dine with your partners or get a sandwich-to-go. The Turkey-cran sand is killer. All ages and genders go to Fat Cat. Hope you enjoy, we do always!

Mmmm yummy. Came in because another restaurant was too busy. Cute staff, fun, modern, cozy atmosphere. Vegetarian options. And yummy drink options. Bloody Mary was a perfect treat! Definately would come back.

Can't comment on anything other than service. Stood waiting to be seated for 10 minutes. Not a single acknowledgement, so we left. I will never go back there. Terrible.

She makes a GAD DANG good ol'fasion! We were bored after boarding all day. Dropped the gear off @ the cabin, Didn't change our stinky socks. Didn't fix our wrecked hair. Didn't even take off our snow pants. Went to the city and plowed into the Fatty Kitty. Hip little joint, purdy look'n art on the walls. Nice comfy chairs and stools. Trendy lighting fixtures with modern decor. A few flat screens over the bar and another large one on the wall. I was kinda disappointed we didn't eat here, from the looks of it they seemed to have excellent cuisine. But we were on a mission. Find a pop'n scene and get drunk in it! Best party this side of the lake has to offer on a cold winter night. The scene was populated with snow; bunnies, rats, and bums. Perfect for our snow burned asses. As we approached the bar, I thought I would be suave and order an Old Fashion, thinking she wouldn't know how to make it allowing me to swoop in and instruct her on the proper technique. She shut me up real good when she asked how I'd like it, light or heavy on the Vermouth. I'll be damned if that was the best I'd had. Every time I'm in the area I make it a point to stop in for one, or two. Did we get good that night? Yyyyup! Did I mention they have Wii? That's right, its time for drunken Wii Sports! Better strap on that Wii-mote before you hurt someone. "Jammathon FTW"

Came here en route to picking up keys to our Lake Tahoe Cabin. We came last Saturday at the brink of the big storm that just hit NorCal. It was such a mess coming here through all the torrential rain, sleet, and snow. When we were in Tahoe City, we just wanted to rest and relax at a place that served decent espresso drinks. After a quick Yelp search, we decided on Fat Cat Cafe. The venue is small and cozy, dimly lit to establish a cabin-like atmosphere. It was apparently a bar/café, with some upscale diner food, too. I ordered a cappuccino for $3. Great price considering where we were. The milk foam was steamed horribly. It could be the altitude or the difference in atm's, but it was just off. The drink itself tasted fine. We also ordered the calamari and the sweet potato fries. Neither were spectacular, but both hit the spot quite nicely. The tangy marinara that came with the calamari was tasty. The spicy pesto aioli that came with the sweet potato fries was a bit of a miss for me--tasted a bit too much like horseradish/wasabi. Still, it was good. We didn't stay here too long since we just wanted to get the keys and get settled in the cabin for the weekend. We paid and left. We'll probably be returning in the future to try some entrées.

I came by The Fat Cat for drink on a trip to Tahoe. This place is a nice cozy spot with a bar, dinner and a menu of cocktail's named after cats. Its a very cute concept except there are no "Cat" decor. We ordered a few drinks which were very delish and a Creme Brulee a bit disappointing it wasnt warm nor did it have that carmalized crunchy topping. =( but over all the service was great and I had a nice time having a drink with my Bf.

Medium burger was well done. Service was friendly but slow. Sweet potato fries were the token frozen kind. Winter sandwich with the cranberry spread was good but didn't make up for the rest. Wish I could give 2.5 but not quite 3 stars

Good homey food! Fun crowd and a great staff... however a tad scattered during the dinner rush... much more of a bar than a place to eat with the family. The food was tastey and full of flavor (however overpowering at times.) Can't comment on the later evening bar scene- the band took the entire time we ate dinner to setup. (hour and a half) and that seemed like the cue to leave before things got crazy. Decent draft brew selection - nothing absolutely amazing but the selection included a porter!

Went to the Fat Cat Cafe twice this week! Stumbled upon it with my friend on Monday and her 4-year-old after spending the day at Commons Beach. It looked a little fancy, but we thought we'd give it a try. The prices are a little high, and there aren't many vegetarian options. The three of us shared a sandwich and the mac & cheese. I ordered the BLTA, minus the B, add cheese. It was very good on toasted sourdough. The accompanying salad was fresh and had some interesting greens in it, not just boring old iceberg lettuce. The mac & cheese was so good that I dragged by BF there later in the week on Saturday so he could try it! We also shared a caesar salad and their garlic bread. The caesar dressing was a bit lemon-y for me. The garlic bread was kinda greasy from all the butter and cheese on it, but tasty too. Portion of mac & cheese is huge. Took half of it home and had it for dinner. Love the fact that their "to go" box was made of paper/cardboard. Ambiance is kinda odd. I guess it is a hopping bar in the evenings with bands or karaoke or wii or something. Cool art on the walls. A little dark. There was some funky trance house music on. Service was excellent. Our servers were very nice and attentive but not overly. Will definitely go back again. Thank you Fat Cat!

We were in Tahoe for a week and stopped in here based on the reviews on Yelp! It's a small cafe/bar with really cool art. If you can't find parking in the front, there's plenty in the back. The Fat Cat mac and cheese was pretty good. Their garlic bread that comes with it is delicious!! Southwestern egg rolls were pretty tasty. I ordered the lettuce wraps as my entree and felt pretty disappointed in the presentation. The chicken tasted good but there was too much sauce. The lettuce was like a garnish so when i pulled a piece out to actually make a wrap, it was drenched in the sauce. Overall we had a good time here.

Stopped for lunch based on Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. The food was fresh, well prepared, and all three of us enjoyed what we ordered, including my husband who is very hard to please. Brisa, our server, was attentive, friendly, and made our visit to The Fat Cat very pleasant.

We went for a Tahoe City wander on a Sunday and decided to see what was behind these doors now rather than go to the same-old. This space was a deli last time we were here. It is now a cozy bar and grill. The music was cool and the server was fun and energetic. We were really surprised how good the sandwich, salad and soup was. It is very hard for North Tahoe restaurants to survive the seasons, weather, competition and labor problems and so far Fat Cat is doing a great job. We have no complaints about the meal or service and are glad to have this option in TC.

The sweet potato fries were nicely cut and cooked, they actually tasted like sweet potato in the middle. The Southwestern Egg Rolls were great! We'll come back for beer next time we're in town.

After riding our bikes around Tahoe city and vicinity, we were looking for something to eat. My wife and I saw a restaurant set back from the rood with a couple of other business. The Fat Cat Café, very quaint. Our server, the atmosphere, the food, made it very relaxing to enjoy our meal. We would defiantly go back next time we are in Tahoe City.

After a long weekend with the crew, my honey and I wanted to grab lunch on the way - before hitting the 4 hour drive home. We walked along CA-89 and found the Fat Cat Cafe. We wanted to watch a bit more of the 49ers game and this place had HDTV at their bar and we found a table right smack in the middle. Our server was nice and got our drink order right away and let us look at the menu. I had a craving for a grilled cheese sandwich and got that along with a side of pasta salad (which comes with). My grilled cheese was delish - a mixture of cheddar and gruyere! YUM! The pasta salad had pesto and sundried tomatoes. My honey enjoyed his Turkey Cran sandwich and potato salad. It was a perfect place to enjoy the game, eat great good, and spend the afternoon with my honey. It is a small little place, but full of good foods and drinks! Cheers!

Visited on our recent trip to Tahoe. This review pertains only to lunch. We ate here with four adults and four kids age range 4-7. I ordered the "Fat Cat" burger with Painted Hills grass-fed beef, applewood smoked bacon, Tallegio cheese and sweet onion marmalade. First, I was happy they served Painted Hills beef, which is hormone free and high quality. The burger was probably in the top five I have ever had. Cooked perfectly medium rare and not overly handled. Accompanying sweet potato fries were excellent .Kids mac n' cheese was also tasted and very good and the kids menu was reasonably priced. I give the place four rather than five stars because the Harvest Salad that we ordered was completely overdressed. Too bad, would have been great otherwise. The cocktails seemed a bit low on the alcohol as well. But the burger was so good I could overlook this.

Beautiful ambiance, great service, and hot yummy food. I seriously love it when your pasta comes out steaming. So good. We got there on a Saturday night around 8pm and we found a table right away and had our food within a half hour. We were too tired to wait for the live band to start at 10pm...but the band warm up set sounded so good I really wanted to stay. I can't wait to go back and try some of their cat-tinis and cat-tails. We had kids, they tufted it out with the fancy mac and cheese, and grill cheese...the stuff only adults can appreciate.

After the recent remodel, the place looks GREAT! and is a bit more accommodating. The food is awesome and the staff is really polite. My fav is the chicken pesto sandwich with the onion soup, mmmm. They are also knowledgeable of their wines and offer wine tastings too. The prices are slightly high, but on par for this kind of fancy food in Tahoe. Now that they have a full bar, you can drink, eat, and be marry. The music is great too. Good local bands to listen and dance to. This place is just what Tahoe City needed, somewhat upscale, yet fun to hang out at.

Definitely good food for a bar as they try to keep it classy. Tofu salad is good and you can go also get your shifter there. Thur night karaoke can get pretty wild...check it out!

Fat Cat is one of the better casual places to eat currently in Tahoe City. As a "part-time" local, I have eaten at pretty much every place in Tahoe City. The Fat Cat is a nice addition with a good selection of draft beer and fantastic burgers and sandwiches. It is also very reasonably priced. Service is good, although the waitress forgot to bring us our Thai Lettuce Wraps when we were there last time. Still, that would not deter me from going to Fat Cat again and again.

One of my favorite local spots on the North Shore. Great drinks and fun atmosphere. The bartenders are so friendly and the menu is always delicious. If you dig mac and cheese, you have to try to Fat Cat Mac! Live music is always a hit. You can't go wrong when hittin' up Fat Cat!

Great food, reasonably priced. Dark atmosphere, but in general, creative, nice display of high end liquors, and the food is fresh, plentiful and flavorful. The sweet potato fries are a must, and if you are going, vegetarian, the portabello mushroom sandwich with caramelized onions, packs a lot of flavor and texture. Very nice little "inconspiciously nestled" small establishment with wonderful food!

Recently in Tahoe City and went to lunch here with our 5 and 3 year olds. Really neat space inside and our server was very good. I read the good reviews beforehand and we weren't disappointed. The kids had the Mac'n'Cheese which was actually really good. The burger and blackened chicken were also very good. We'll definitely be back!

The meal started off fine. I really liked the atmosphere and the 80s music. There was an eclectic mix of people as well. And then it all went downhill. My nephew found a bright pink hair in his water. Let me repeat that--in his water. We chalked it up to bad luck and had the waitress replace it. Our food came and for the most part, we were pretty pleased. My husband really enjoyed the ahi wonton dish, my MIL liked her BLT sandwich (minus the very limp salad which I had replaced--strike 2), and my daughter devoured her mac & cheese. I had the chopped salad, which tasted fine, until I found a brown hair in it. By this time I was pretty upset. I called the waitress over and asked her to replace it. Now, when you find a hair in your food, isn't it understood that they will make the dish for you again? Not here. They re-plated my salad, minus the hair. I asked her to replace the salad with a pasta dish, which she refused to do. She said they only do a straight exchange. Even at this point, I was willing to accommodate. When the waitress brought the salad back, I thought that it looked like a much smaller portion than when I first ordered it. But, whatever. I was fine with it. And then I found a piece of tuna in my salad, at which point I knew it had simply been re-plated. My salad didn't come with tuna and I remembered that I had dropped a few pieces of my husband's dish on my plate. By this time I was fuming. I called the waitress over again and asked her to take the salad off the bill. She initially refused, which outraged me more. She said she had to ask the manager so I asked to speak with him. He apologized and seemed to really mean it. He took the salad off the bill and said he hoped we would give them another chance. Uh, no way. Now I know that some yelp reviews are overly critical--I am not one of those super picky, b*****y, people. I am fair. Having said that, if you are ok with hair in your dishes and service that doesn't try to retain clients, go eat here. Otherwise, avoid this place or at least just stick with drinks made at the bar. I hate spending my hard earned money and feeling crappy after a meal--both of which I did at Fat Cat. Not to mention it was embarrassing since I had family from out of town with me. I love Lake Tahoe, but I will never come here again. It leaves a bad taste and hair in my mouth.

This was a good find. We stopped here for lunch after hiking up to Eagle Lake. Sandwiches were a bit expensive, but very good. Service was excellent. I had Big D's Triple Cheese, a sandwich with roast beef, onions, mushrooms, peppers, and three cheeses. The bread was really good. My husband had a traditional grilled cheese, with avocado. They forgot the avocado the first time, and when our server sent it back, they made a whole new sandwich. We both chose sweet potato fries (for $2 additional), which were good, but not the best I've ever had. The cilantro dipping sauce served with them was good.

After a weekend of camping and backcountry skiing, our group wanted some good gourmet food and decided to give Fat Cat a try...we were not disappointed. Ordered the mac-n-cheese (we licked the bowl) for all 4 of us to share, the chopped salad (HUGE and tasty), hot roast beef sandwich (amazingly good), veggie sandwich and turkey classic. The quality and quantity of food was impressive- and at very reasonable prices. I liked the overall atmosphere as well- like a cafe (with couches and tables) but I would stick to the tables near the windows, as it gets a bit dark towards the back. Had a sweet piping hot mocha as well-- totally hit the spot. Service was very friendly. Definitely recommend Fat Cat for lunch.

I was visiting my buddy who lives in Tahoe city. He took me to this bar. It was a nice bar, they had a live band. They were a lot of people in the bar. Alot of hot girls also. I wish I knew about the fat cat before last night!

I just went to the Fat Cat for lunch. I really enjoy the atmosphere of the place; it looks great after the remodel. My main issue is that the prices are a little ridiculous for what you get! I mean come on; I know it's Tahoe, but offer the locals a discount or something. It's just not cool to pay $11 for 3 of the tiniest hamburgers in the world and then have the server clear my place setting before I'm finished eating, but then wait 5 minutes before bringing the check. I have high hopes for this place, but you have got to work on your service and prices or at least offer a discounted lunch special - you are going to lose the locals without offering us something affordable and fast!

This was the tastiest lunch I have ever had! I ordered the Turkey Cran, and it was PERFECT. You must order the pasta salad as a side; it was amazing. The portions were just right for lunch too; not a ton of food, but not too small. I wish they were in San Francisco... their Turkey Cran sandwich is way better than the cranberry turkey sandwich at Cheese Plus. I want to go back for lunch there everyday!

I went here with my family after a fun day in the snow, and this was so fun! The food is definitely unique. I usually don't like sweet potato fries but these were the best I've ever had! Seriously, if you go here, you must order them. I don't think I've ever had chicken pozole before, and this was delicious. As an appetizer we ordered the Southwestern eggs rolls; they were OH MY GOD good! Happy hour was going on when we got there, and I remember there being some good deals. I was pregnant when we went and everyone else didn't want to spend the extra money - but if you're looking for a good happy hour place with delicious food, go here! Now for the sandwiches....I of course had to sample everyone else's food. My sister's turkey cranberry sandwich was hands down the best sandwich at the table. Both the Fungi and the roast beef melt were just ok, which is what makes me give four instead of five stars. Basically some of the items on the menu are amazing - others just fall short. Overall, I highly recommend this place!!

Eclectic art on the walls. Staff wearing interesting hats and sporting quite a few piercings, this was going to be good or bad - I sensed no middle ground. Thankfully, it was good. Interesting (almost eclectic) selection of sandwiches, I went for the as far from eclectic as you could get - a BLT -t'was nice. We also tried the sweet potato fries for the table, they're curry-fied - and were only on the table for a short time before the empty plate was removed. Service was way above and beyond what I was suspecting for a hat and piercing type place - waters were topped off frequently, empty plates were removed etc. - a very pleasant surprise - which actually, would describe the whole experience.

Small, lots of locals, mac and cheese not nearly as good as the reviews. In fact, all of the food was JUST OK,not great. A few good wines and a few good beers. They were out of the sweet potato fries. The best thing about the place was the service, casually attentive, patient while we decided. Happy hour specials, interesting art work on the walls for sale. Get out before the music starts cause it gets loud.

Cool little hipster place right in the middle of Tahoe City. Chicken Marsala was delicious. Cocktails are fresh and innovative. View of the lake from bar tables. And... if you are so inclined they have a shot of your choice with a 16 OZ PBR for only $7. I went for the Curiosity followed bt a glass of the Acacia Pinot Noir which were both great.

I was originally going to leave a 5 star review, most of the food was excellent, service was great, decor was decent and prices acceptable. I went there for breakfast and ordered the American ($11) and got a side of the potatoes ($3). The American comes with French Toast or Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs and 2 Strips of bacon. The eggs were nicely cooked, not dry or overly moist, the bacon was excellent, the right mix of chewy and crispy, the potatoes were heavenly, a mix between home fries and au gratin. Service was quick and friendly, from this I went to the French Toast. The toast itself was good, but they had fake syrup. I poured it on without a thought, not thinking they would skimp here after such great food. Sadly it brought down the whole meal and left it with an aftertaste. Still, as long as you skip the fake syrup and order something with potatoes it is one of the better places in Tahoe City for breakfast as far as I can see.

This is a great place for Tahoe City. There's either low quality fast food or high price restaurants. The Fat Cat is a good mid price restaurant. The food is great my favorites are the Turkey Cran sandwich and the Chicken Pesto sandwich. The service isn't the best , you have to have a little patience and your rarely greeted but the good food is worth the wait.

Yelp reviews were right - *great* place to drop in & grab a terrific bite to eat after a good, long day skiing. Came in here on Memorial Day and came out with full bellies of some really yummy food. The blackened chicken sandwich was out of this world & the sweet potato fries were delish. Great, friendly service & clean & comfy too - we will definitely be back!

Super amazing food and hella fun atmosphere. The hip bar Tahoe City needed, and they, along with Syd's Bagelry across the street are the sole establishments to provide Tahoe artists with a venue and thus North Tahoe with an art scene. Good times. Get the Truffle Mac and Cheese, soooooo good! But it all is really. As far as cocktails go, hit up The Curiosity. Damn good.

Ordered the calamari and it was overcooked and dry. The waitress even said she would give us a discount because it they did not prep enough. I sent it back. Ordered the seared Ahi appetizer. Not fresh. Ordered the Mac n Cheese and my wife ordered the Chicken Marsala. Both were flavorless. I could have taught a 7 year old to cook better Mac n Cheese. The whole experience left the both of us feeling unhappy, disappointed and hungry. I got the waitress to discount my bill. Paid the bill, drove the car around the corner and we went to Rosie's Cafe. My advice, stay away from Fat Cat when you can get way better food at Rosie's Cafe.

We decided to try Fat Cat based on Yelp reviews. Let me tell you it did not disappoint. It was hard to tell that the place had only reopened a week ago. I have to start by telling you about my drink. I had a New Age, Mendoza, which is basically an effervescent white wine and a twist of lime served over ice. Now before you say "ewww", it was delicious!! Perfect drink for a warm summer evening. I have found New Age locally and have turned many more people on to this awesome find. Very light and perfect to go with the salad. We decided to split the Harvest Salad, mixed greens, bleu cheese, dried cranberries, and candied walnuts, that was lightly tossed in a delicious vinaigrette. I'm glad that we split because the portions were perfect. My husband had the Chicken Tortilla soup which was homemade and had slices of avocado and tortilla strips on top. It was really good. Next we ordered from the "Small Plates" part of the menu, Sweet Potato Fries with a cool cilantro dipping sauce and the "3-Way Sliders". Three sliders, one with bleu cheese and bacon, second was cheddar cheese and the last one was goat cheese with sundried tomatoes. The buns were fresh and home made, the beef was "Certified Angus" and delicious! The sweet potato fries had a slight hint of curry and were cooked to perfection. We enjoyed the strawberry shortcake for dessert, maybe a little skimpy on the strawberries, but overall it was great. Our server was friendly, courteous, and very helpful. She recommended a wonderful Cab. Sauv. to pair with the sliders. The only reason it gets 4 stars, they had run out of decaf coffee for the evening. I highly recommend this place, it is perfect for an unpretentious night of really good food and a comfortable atmosphere. They do have an "open mike" on Tuesdays, karaoke on Thursdays, and live bands on Saturday nights. I will definitely come back and try more of the great food and wines.

This is not for the food because I haven't tried it. But for the night/dance thing they had going on. First off the doorman and bartenders were great. THey were friendly, kind and helpful. The clientele was also great. Relaxed and fun, most of them pretty young. The drinks came fast and were good. I had a great time dancing and waiting out the traffic. Next time I'll come back for the food.

When we plan trips form San Francisco to Tahoe we get just as excited about Fat Cat as we do about boarding! Great for grown ups AND kids. Friendly, attentive staff and great for to-go orders, as well! :) GO THERE!!!!!

Mmmmm after striking out at the other coffee locations, Fat Cat was the perfect coffee pick me up for my boyfriend and I on a Friday night. It was so good we came back the next day! I highly recommend the white mochas, they are to die for!

As for a place for locals not to pay too much for a less than much meal, this is the place. Its like a little city bar transplanted into the mountains. The menu is great, just a blend of diverse american food. Lets keep this short so there you go. The mac and cheese is the greatest! My wife and I love eating there. Beer selection is one of the cheif issues here at Fat Cat they have the largest on tap on the north shore. And if thats not true, they have the best. The darkly lit cafe really has a twist of the city with all the modern art on the walls. Some good, some bad. But it just fits the theme. The wost part is the best piece of art in my opinion is on the way to the bathroom. They did some thinking about this place and it has turned out for the best.

Thank you to the girls here for saving me from that horrible coffee at the casinos! Minus one star for the sort-of-stale cookie. But the soy cappuccino was delicious!

Was pleasantly surprised by the high quality food at this cool bar/restaurant in the center of Tahoe City. Really nice menu of sandwiches and pasta. Drew the manager and bartender was really helpful and friendly. I settled on the chicken sandwich for dinner which was cooked perfectly and the waitress was kind enough to substitute avocado for cheese since I am allergic to dairy. The bread was fresh and nicely crusted. Had a great and robust Pale Ale to wash it down. I noticed at the next table over a large group were really enjoying a number of appetizers (soft tacos, sliders etc) and several nice pasta's. I was there on Tuesday evening which is open-mic night and took advantage of hearing some nice local musicians perform. Oh, food and drinks are reasonably priced as well.

I loved the btl with avacado! we were visiting for the weekend and decided to eat here before we headed home. The service was amazeballs. My lover had the pesto pasta with shrimp and was also amazed.

I am in agreement with most of the reviews--good food and at times poor customer service at the tables. Two flat screen TVs with the games on is pretty decent. The decor is charming, warm, and inviting. I usually sit at the bar, so I get serviced somewhat quickly and efficiently--no complaints. However, I have witnessed people waiting at the hostess station or at their tables for service for long periods and not being acknowledged, as well as overhearing some fiercely catty and loud comments about current "bad" customers from servers near the kitchen (behind the bar), who were constantly confused as to which table was theirs (and there are only about ten tables, if that). I didn't see if the servers were rude face to face with customers, or only behind their backs. Seating was a mess, with some patrons waiting for a table at the hostess station while others just strolled by the hostess station and selected a table for themselves. Also, table customers had to repeatedly come to the bar to get more water, and this in a tiny restaurant with at least two servers on duty. These kinds of things seem to go on every time I have come to this place, and I don't know what to think of it. It is sort of amusing, but not if I was one of the people at the tables being ignored and later insulted behind my back, or the manager , chef, or owner. To their credit, the bartenders are focused and professional and keep their customers happy. Most of the food is beyond ordinary, and the soup, sandwiches, and pasta dishes at this restaurant are wonderful ,and I am awfully particular about soup and pasta. The salads are merely okay, from what I have sampled. I would recommend sitting at the large bar (which it seems everyone who can does), bypassing the tables, and enjoying a cheap beer, the game, and a great soup or pasta.

one of the other best places in tahoe. great lunch and dinner and bar. the people who work there are the best, especially, kristy, jay, and chris. they have great tv's for watching sports and its usually not over crowded if youre trying to watch a game. my friends and i have never had one bad thing off the menu and they change a few things around every season or so which is nice to be able to try something new. the drinks are stiff and well priced and its just a great place over all.

I really didn't know if I was gonna like this place because of reviews I read before I ate here. But we were pleasantly surprised. The place is pretty small, but really clean and comfortable. Plus, we scored the most comfy seats and the best table. That helped a lot. I thought our server was pleasant and nice. She was pretty fast with everything and didn't over charge me when I ordered a special drink OFF menu. I expected to pay a little more being in a tourist trap area, but it wasn't that bad. I ordered the Chicken Marsala Pasta. I ate the whole thing! My date and I shared the Caesar Salad to start and it was really good too. The only reason this place DOESN'T get 5 stars is because my date wanted to order the Chicken Parmesan sandwich, but they were out of it. So he settled for a Roast Beef Panini with Potato salad. It was tasty, but really just some deli beef in some grilled bread. The Potato Salad was delish, but there was the TINIEST portion of it on the plate. You don't get that much food for your buck here. I would eat here again.

The Fat Cat is our new favorite restaurant in Tahoe. The blacked chicken sandwich is the best thing on the menu! Mac n cheese is also good if you like rich food. If you sit outside you can also get a great view of the lake. The service is casual so I wouldn't expect anything terribly formal.

Happened upon this little bar and grill with our kids and weren't sure if it was the right place to stop with our young kids. The staff was friendly and welcoming so we stayed. It was happy hour, so we ordered a few apps and beers. The hot wings, lettuce wraps, and egg rolls were my favorite. The service was great, the food and beer delicious. We'd definitely return!

I come here for the burgers!!! Delicious! On Thursdays they have karaoke. The bar staff is very nice and the server is good at making sure we didn't run out of beverages. The server was awesome actually. It's a little pricy but that's Tahoe!

  • Jennifer L.

You really don't have many options on this side of the lake, so take what you can get! Fat Cat has a cover band that plays Velvet Revolver songs on Saturday nights and a kitchen that's open pretty late with the BESTTTT sweet potato fries. Why say no when you can say yes?

  • Waychill L.

Food was ok. Got the Reuben sandwich $12, Chinese Chk salad $10 and $7 sweet potato fries that were suppose to be half off for happy hour but of course when the bill came they weren't. The waiter said it was only at the bar for the deal but the bar only sits like 10 people! And that place is tiny so that was a bummer. I wish he told us sooner. $7 is the most I've ever paid for fries. Local younger crowd bit on the pricey side, don't think I would go again.

If "Meh. I've experienced better" is what 2 stars really means, then yes... I have definitely experienced better. And worse, for that matter. The atmosphere here is very cool. And the artwork on the walls was so interesting, I seriously considered buying a piece. I ordered the tacos. The meat seemed old, as if cooked yesterday. And it was JUST the tacos. Nothing to write home about. No special sauces or anything. If I remember correctly, the lime wedge was bone dry. My niece ordered the pot stickers, which looked pretty good. Wish I could remember what my sister in law ordered! I'd come back and have a few drinks, and consider the artwork again, but I'd skip the tacos.

Our favorite little gem when in Tahoe City. Like with the TV show Cheers it's that home away from home where every one knows your name...comfy yet hip! We spent a couple hours with Quinn as our bartender and just felt pampered. Looking around I think everyone did! Great place...you must drop in!

Really relaxed atmosphere. I ordered from the menu and could not decide between the Fat Cat Macaroni and Cheese or the Fat Cat Burger. So I asked the server, he advised me to get the the Fat Cat Burger because they have the best burgers in town. Boy was he right! It was so delicious, I was almost sad that my meal was done. Definitely come here for a beer and a burger! :)

Wow - don't let the décor or outside of the joint fool you - the food here is absolutely delicious!! This place gets a solid 4 stars for really solid and delicious food. We also experienced great service. I was a little skeptical after walking in and checking out the menu. Décor is eclectic, to say the least. Don't let the weird painting of a skeleton of a creepy small animal holding a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer snarling over one of the tables scare you away (although, lets be honest - why??) The atmosphere is definitely more of a sportsbar vibe - again with some random art strung around. I was glad we were able to grab a table by the window where you could actually make out a little view of the lake. As I mentioned, we were very pleasantly surprised. We had the chicken lettuce wraps, chicken enchilada soup and the caprese salad. All of them were REALLY DELICIOUS!! Everything was fresh and really tasty. And the presentation was lovely as well. We gobbled it all up and were amazed by how great it all was. Our waitress was very nice too. I think she did a great job as it appeared that she was the only one taking care of the whole room. She was kind and remembered everything. We will be back here again for sure.

We found this places through yelp, and it was so great that we came back two nights in a row. The server/bartenders are friendly, attentive, and genuinely want to take time to talk to you. The atmosphere, even though slightly similar to a sports bar, didn't bother me (not a sports fan) at all. Everyone was so nice, the patrons included (the second night a patron bought everyone in the bar a round of drinks). The food was spectacular! Probably the best veggie burger I have tried so far and the regular burger was spectacular as well. The lettuce wraps were also delicious, and healthy for an added bonus. I will be coming back here in the future for their friendly service, reasonable prices, and great quality food.

Chill atmosphere. Mix between a cabin like cafe and sports bar. Pretty happy environment. Food is very typical, and perhaps a bit pricey for the actual content. For the options they offer, they do it well (i.e. It's well cooked). I felt they were a little understaffed. Good option for Tahoe! Harvest Salad: dried cranberries and candied walnuts pretty much make any salad delicious and they load veggies on it, so it's healthy and tasty. Pesto Chicken Sandwich: delicious! Chicken, bell peppers, and pesto mayo. Sweet Potato Fries: crispy, average

Tahoe City doesn't have a whole lot of great dining options according to Yelp, so The Fat Cat stood out with it's four stars. Fat Cat is a cozy gastropub with occasional live music, and for a nice casual sit-down dinner or a few drinks with friends, it gets the job done in a jiffy. They make the Fat Cat signature burger sound really delicious, but in the end it was just A-OK. It's described as having cherrywood-smoked bacon, Tallegio cheese, and a sweet onion marmalade. The Tallegio is a white cheese, and like all white cheeses, it was hard to detect the flavor. So too was it hard to detect the sweet onion marmalade, other than a faint sweetness that lingered all burger long. The bottom bun started disintegrating, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. The meat itself wasn't anything spectacular either. All of these things make the $12 price tag a hard swallow. For the quality, this should be an $8 burger. The fries that came with the burger were a bit too salty, as well. Our server was sweet, and the bartender was a cool guy. Not sure what their happy hour situation is, but we ate an early dinner at about 5 p.m. and my pint was only four bucks. All in all, my meal was good, just not the $12, gourmet hamburger I was truly hoping for.

I came here during my recent summer trip to Tahoe. The Fat Cat is a small, but very cozy restaurant that has live music AND karaoke on certain days and plenty of televisions to watch sports on the remaining days. It definitely seemed like a "locals" joint but at least they didn't treat us like that. Well, for the most part. I do remember it taking quite a while for our server to actually greet us and take our orders since she seemed more interested in tending to the locals. We didn't mind this time since we were just absorbing the environment. I ordered the BBQ Chicken Salad. It was pretty standard. It came with grilled chicken, black beans, corn, tomatoes, basil and chopped lettuce tossed in their housemade Southwest dressing. It was also topped with tortilla chips, so that was a nice crunch. The portion was pretty decent. Then again, it doesn't take much food for me to become full but I at least thought the portion was more than enough for one person. My companion's Turkey Cran was pretty decent, he said. The turkey was a bit on the dry side, though. The cranberry sauce made it a little more bearable. Would I come here again? Meh, maybe if I was really desperate.

Wait time for brunch in Tahoe on a Sunday morning: ridic. We came into the Fat Cat because it was not crowded and we needed some fuel before cheering on our fellow friends at Tahoe Tough Mudder. In fact it was pretty empty. The menu is a little scattered in terms of cuisine - Thai stuff, sandwiches, burgers, ahi tuna... I got the club chicken sandwich which was honestly on the salty side. Waitress was friendly but then it started getting crowded & she was still the only one. Nice little spot to perhaps check out at night, when the booze is flowin.

Having watched the Super Bowl today reminded me that the Fat Cat would've been a perfect spot for doing that back in Tahoe. It's a cool spot to hang out. Casual environment.. Comfy chairs to sit and cozy tables to share over a romantic conversation. We walked in to a group of happy patrons drinking beer and munching on their famous Mac N Cheese. The waiter said it will be very rich and creamy. That they make their own cheese. AND that it does come with bacon. He's right. it was rich and excellent. I can feel my arteries clogging while I was enjoying it. It comes in a small square bowl but after munching on the $8.00 plate of Sweet potato fries I was too full to finish my order. They have a version of their sweet potato fries. It comes sprinkled with some curry. Overcooked and Not to my liking :( I prefer my sweet potato fries virgin style. Just a sprinkle of salt and nothing else! but company enjoyed it! We also ordered the Lasgna. Now this is the least of my favorite. It's bland. 'Nuff said! Parking is tricky here. Staff is friendly and happy to be working there.

Stopped by here on a Sunday night on our way back out of town. We were surprised to see that they had a nice happy hour menu that ran from 4-close on Sundays. In the 2 times that I've been here I've thoroughly enjoyed my meals. Today I got the buffalo wings (5 for $4) and the Fat Cat burger that comes with a couple giants pieces of the tastiest bacon I've ever had. Fat Cat Cafe is a must visit in Tahoe City.

Was pleasantly surprised at outside street corner seating with partial views of the lake. Waitress was really nice. Drinks were good - I had CA IPA and she had Moscow mule (cool mug). For dinner, we had with lettuce wraps, beef sandwich au jus, and hot wings (don't judge me) All were good - I would go back.

Caitlin was our server here and she is just great!!! My boyfriend and I came in for dinner here. We Sat down just before a huge rush of 27 people came in. We watched her arrange all of the tables and chairs solely, to accommodate them without reservations. She still brought out all of our drinks and food in under ten minutes and everything was just delicious and fresh!!! Will definitely come back!!!

This place gets five stars and totally deserves it. I do not normally give reviews, but I use Yelp on a regular basis. For the North Lake Tahoe area this place is a hidden gem! Food was fabulous, kids were happy, service was great. I had a chicken sandwich, that was marvelous. Kids got to have the best pancakes in the middle of the day, better than Kings Beach Log Cabin, hubby had a roast beef sandwich that he devoured. Our server was the only one serving the full cafe, but was amazing. There are very few places in Tahoe that can maintain the quality in such a tourist/ seasonal driven environment. We have been coming to Lake Tahoe for over 25 years and I was more than impressed.

So we randomly decided to head up to the snow from sactown and was starving by the time we got to tahoe city. we looked up a place to eat on good ole yelp, and settled on the Fat CAt. yelp did not let us down. The place is actually kinda small. i was expecting like BJs ginormous size dinning areas, but it was a cozy and warm space. The have a small good looking bar and a few high tables that seats two and a handful of regular height tables that can seat four. when i was reading some of the reviews, it seems like the emphasis is on the "bar" and not so much the "grill", but wow, they really surprised me with their food, it was really tasty. We started with the mac and cheese with bacon and mushrooms. I thought the mac and cheese was ok....not the best but not the worst. It was very saucy, and kind of loose, it needed to be baked, and i don't think that was done. They were really busy and it seemed like they were short staffed, so i guess they didn't have they time to finish off the mac and cheese in the oven, but i didn't mind it was still pretty good, the bacon they use is good quality, thick cut and meaty! yum. i do live in america afterall, so you know, gotta show the bacon some love! we also ordered their signature burger and the blackened chicken club sandwich. The burger was bomb! one of the best burgers I've had! The burger was seasoned well, again good thick bacon, fresh soft bun, and fresh lettuce and tomato! it was so good and it was huge! i had to take the other half home. I also got to share the blackened chicken club, everything was fresh and seasoned every step of the way, i loved how they toasted the bread all golden and buttery! only complaint is that, the chicken itself was maybe just a tad too salty. The place a very laid back feel, with reggae music on stereo. Only reason this place is not a five star, is that it is a bit pricey in my opinion. this was a good find on our spur of the moment trip to the snow. yay!

I love this place, and I had no idea I would. We were in town for a few days and stopped here (planning to drink and eat some crappy bar food) - but we were REALLY surprised, because the food was really really awesome - and a bunch of good beers to choose from too. If I open a restaurant, this menu is what I would want.

Driving through Tahoe City hungry, sunburned and sore. Stopped in just to get out of the sun, get something to eat and to relax. Perfect place. I ordered the City Kitty Martini and and the ahi tuna tower. Refreshing and delicious. The martini was made perfectly and the appetizer I ordered wasn't skimpy. I would've stayed longer, but I had places to go. Bartender knew what she was doing and the patrons were friendly. I would go again if I'm in town! Oh yeah, a sign says seat yourself right when you walk in...a little discouraging when you're not greeted right away and you're standing there not knowing what to do. But I completely forgot about it after taking a seat at the counter.

The food here is very, very good. A pleasant surprise. I had the French onion soup which wasn't overly salty; it was delicious. I also had the Fat Cat Mac n Cheese, which was also awesome. And then because I felt they had nailed two staples in good bar food, I finished with the hot wings. They were superb. Great spice and great quality of chicken. Great beer selection too. Wide variety. And good music. This isn't a made up review. Just stopped in on a whim. Abby was our bartender and she was super on it. Looking for a smaller bar with awesome food? This is it.

Good food and better prices. We came during happy hour and had a blast. $2 draft Miller during happy hour turns into $3 draft Miller after happy hour. They've got several other beers on tap, which we took advantage of when the High Life ran dry. The Fat Cat Mac was filling, but not as exciting/fun/jazzy as its name might imply. Seems to be a little overhyped on Yelp. Fat Cat Burger was scrumptious. Burger itself wasn't huge, but they cooked it real nice. Recommend springing for the sweet potato fries, they were a hit. Not sure I could taste the special "curry salt" though. Limited tableage and they don't take reservations. No problem seating 7 on a Saturday afternoon though. Service was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed ourselves and the bill was easy on our collective pocket. Will be back.

The best place to eat after a great day of mountain biking. Came here with 10 of my friends. Waitresses were great: friendly and fast. Menu was lengthy, drinks were tasty and the food was very good. The burgers are fat and juicy, and from what I saw on everyone's plates, all of the food that day looked tempting. Everyone enjoyed their meals. This is the place to stuff yourself silly after a fun filled day. Just go...

My boyfriend and I went here for the first time and we were very satisfied! According to my boyfriend, the Philly cheese steak sandwich was the best he's ever had (and he's from the east coast). I had the blackened chicken sandwich and it was so flavorful! I made sure to order their sweet potato fries (based on other reviews) and I was not disappointed. The service was great and the vibe in the restaurant was very chill. We will be coming back on our next trip to Tahoe!

We had lunch here recently with 6 of us ladies. Everyone Loved their food. I had the Winter Cran -Boar's Head oven roasted turkey breast, Havarti cheese, house-made cranberry relish & mayo served on toasted ciabatta $10 served with sweet potato fries with cilantro dipping sauce. OMG!!! The best sandwich I've ever had! Mac n Cheese is also very good. I will definitely be back in February!

This place was amazing. The staff was not just friendly but attentive had great suggestions and they are all HOT. Place is a little urban looking but don't let that scare you off. I never order Mac and cheese and I don't know what I was thinking but it is a must if stop in to eat. The Mac and cheese absolutely rocks. In a surprise the wife ordered a BLT which is what I usually order so we did opposites this time. We both looked at each other jealous but not wiling to give up the treasure each of us stumbled upon. So we shared and it was very contentious as to not take more than your fair share which made it fun. The BLT bacon was cooked to perfection and thick with flavor not fat grease but flavor. Love this place!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read about this spot on yelp and had to check it out. Arrived at 1 something and the place was really busy. By 1:30 there must have been 20 people in line. Staff was completely overwhelmed but did a great job nonetheless. Water was promptly served ( I like that quite a bit) and menus looked great it was difficult to choose. I had the roasted tomato soup- it was VERY spicy, too much for me, and a chick pesto with goat cheese, oh so yummy with the sweet potato fries. Delicious. My husband has the chicken and wild rice soup- it was really great and the turkey cranberry ciabatta sandwich. Also delicious. We really liked this place and the prices were more than fair. Vibe is very cool, and in spite of being slammed the staff was great. They told us this was the first really busy day of the summer- and they simply weren't prepared. It's all good, and we will be back !

I wish I could have tried out the food to give a better review, but we couldn't even get service. Was sat outside immediately, server gave us menus about 5 mins after and never came back. Server went to the table right next to us, which were her friends, served them, talked to them, and didn't bat an eye in our direction. Left 20 minutes later after getting menus and won't ever go back.

The view is amazing, and made up for (mostly) the poor food and service. I would come here for drinks again but will save the food for another place

Nice atmosphere, good service and tasty food! A great place to hang out on a rainy night in Tahoe. :)

On vacation with the family. We came to this place after going river rafting. We were starving so we stopped at this place based on yelp reviews. 6pm and they sat us very fast. The burgers are incredible. The bread was just perfect. Not to mention, grain feed beef.

Came here on a dead Sunday with three of my girlfriends and Quinn made us feel like stars. Cooked us up amazing cocktails all night and let us jam out to our own music. If you ever find yourselves in north lake, off season or not, make it a point to stop here. Awesome drinks and entertainment. Quinn could be a mixologist in any bar in NYC and lucky for us, he was here to take care of us

Went here based on reviews and was extremely happy with our choice. Food is standard pub fare, not fancy but cooked well. Bartender was our server and he was awesome. Service really made the place. Would go here again.

Horrible service, horrible food. Never again. Orders were delayed by one hour, we had to wait, and food was cold and not even prepared according to the description n he menu. Staff was completely dismissive of our situation - we had 3 little kids waiting for dinner.

We called ahead and they told us dogs on the outside patio but beware it us windy. It was windy but it worked out great for six of us and 2 dogs. We felt the service was good and everyone at the table liked their food. My second trip and both were good, I will be going back!

A good local hang out. Somehow I learned a secret, when you get your first drink make it a SHIFTER, its supposed to be a $1 shot before your drink and its intended for those just coming off their shifts. Since I make my own hours, I can be honest when I get off, anytime I please. The Kareoke is pretty fun, and the food is bombtastic. I mean I like to eat and this was a place that satisfied me in mulitple ways. Schuper schweet. Plus my boi MicahJ rocked the house while i was there, big ups, moddah mercy...

Three of us walked in one afternoon looking for our espresso fix. There was a young girl manning the espresso station - we all ordered double and triple espresso Machiattos. She seemed confused - then referenced some placard on drinks. She then proceeded to make the drinks - incorrectly. She filled each cup up with milk and foam. So we then explained what an espresso Machiatto was - and could she please make the drinks we ordered. She seemed a bit flustered. I then decided to make it simple for her - I asked for three shots of espresso - straight up. The espresso machine they use at Fat Cat is one of these automated jobs - the espresso does not get packed and tamped by the Barista. I was not impressed with the drink. I'd give these guys another try down the road to see if they can do better or if some of their other stuff is worth eating/drinking.

Came here last week after a half day of snowboarding in miserable weather because every where else we wanted to go didn't open for another hour or hour and a half. The servers and staff were very friendly and their menu was surpisingly bountiful! The drinks were only so-so; fairly watered down, but the food really was good. The Mac and Cheese was excellent, the Ahi amazing, the veggie quesadilla got rave reviews and...I can't seem to remember what the rest of the group had! I would definitely recommend this place for a laid back meal - although I'm guessing it gets pretty busy as the evening wears on and there aren't a ton of tables per se. The place itself is very cozy and the local artwork on the walls (for sale, cash only) is pretty interesting. All in all I would say this place is a keeper!

Great place to wait out an unexpected hailstorm! Food was tasty, the bar had an interesting selection of beers (including local fave PBR), service was friendly. Can't give 5 stars since they were out of ribs. Blackened chicken sandwich had good complex flavors; sweet potato fries were excellent; caprese sandwich was a little too wet but tasted great; the regular fries were just regular.

I'm not a regular Yelper. I either have to be EXTREMELY IMPRESSED or really disappointed. Well Fat Cat blew me away. While visiting Tahoe City my boyfriend and I walked in by chance. Hungry and looking for WiFi. The waitress Brisa was amazing! Friendly and fun with a great sense of humor! So service was great! Now for the food... nothing short of AMAZING! Sweet Potato Fries were fresh and crispy! The Buffalo Chicken Sliders had the perfect kick of spicey but not to the point were your mouth is on fire. Which is perfect for me! And the last item we had was the pot stickers. The pot stickers were fresh and cooked to perfection! And the dipping sauce wasn't overly salty, it had a very pleasant balance! I give this place 10 stars if I could! Amazing food, great service/hospitality, and a great enviroment!
